ryOS Subtitles Privacy Policy

This policy applies to ryOS Subtitles, the Chrome extension that adds pronunciation guides and dual-language subtitles to Netflix. The extension is provided by Ryo Lu. For privacy questions or requests, contact [email protected].

The ryOS web app privacy policy covers the separate web app. Its account, cloud sync, AI, and analytics features do not run in this extension.

Information processed in your browser

To display subtitles, the extension reads the Netflix player's subtitle text, available subtitle tracks, audio and subtitle languages, playback timing, and a show identifier or show title. It uses this information to select subtitle tracks, synchronize the two lines, generate pronunciation guides, and restore your language choices for a show.

Pronunciation processing runs locally using bundled dictionaries. All executable code and fonts are bundled with the extension. No subtitle text is sent to an AI service.

Preferences stored on your device

The extension saves the following in Chrome's local extension storage:

• Subtitle appearance and timing settings.

• Pronunciation preferences.
• Your preferred secondary subtitle language.
• Language pairs associated with a show identifier or title.

These preferences are not synced to a developer-operated service. Subtitle text is held temporarily in memory during use; the extension does not persist subtitle files or record a playback history. Saved show-language pairs remain until you remove the extension's local storage or uninstall it.

Requests to Netflix

The extension requests subtitle text files from Netflix's content delivery network using URLs exposed by the current Netflix player. These requests omit cookies. Netflix receives standard network request information, such as your IP address and the requested subtitle URL, and handles it under Netflix's privacy policy.

Using the extension requires access to Netflix content. Netflix's own website and services continue to operate under their own policies.

No developer collection, analytics, or advertising

The extension does not send your subtitle text, viewing activity, show preferences, or other personal information to the developer. It contains no analytics, advertising, tracking pixels, or developer-operated data service.

The developer does not sell extension user data, use it for advertising, or use it for creditworthiness or lending decisions. Information accessed by the extension is used to provide its subtitle-learning features.

If you contact support by email, the developer receives the information you choose to include and uses it to respond to your request. Do not include Netflix passwords or other account credentials.

Your choices

You can change the extension's settings or disable it at any time. Uninstalling the extension removes its local Chrome extension storage. Disabling it stops its subtitle features but retains your preferences.
